EPA Reaches Agreement With Ford; Includes $44,000 Fine
CHICAGO, March 9 -- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) Region 5 has recently reached agreement with Ford Motor Co. on
alleged clean-air violations at the company's Cleveland Casting Plant, 5600
Henry Ford Blvd., Brook Park, OH. Ford agreed to pay a $44,000 civil penalty.
EPA cited Ford last June for exceeding State particulate (dust, soot,
smoke) emission limits at its No. 7 cupola furnace. Excess cupola emissions
have been calculated at over 10 tons per year.
"EPA is committed to enforcing clean-air regulations to protect public
health and the environment," said Richard Karl, acting director of the
regional Air and Radiation Division. "We will take all necessary steps to
ensure that companies comply with the Clean Air Act."
Inhaling high concentrations of particulates can affect children, the
elderly, and people with heart and lung diseases the most.
