Dana to Rebuild Plant in Fredericktown, Plans Include New Jobs, Expanded Capabilities
FREDERICKTOWN, Ohio, March 9 -- Dana Corporation
today announced plans to rebuild, add new jobs, and expand capabilities to its
Spicer Outdoor Power Equipment facility in Fredericktown, Ohio. The plant was
destroyed by fire on Oct. 24, 1998.
The new 100,000-square-foot facility will be located on a 20-acre site in
Fredericktown, and is scheduled to be fully operational by December, 1999. As
part of the facility's expanded capabilities, Dana will move its mechanical
and hydraulic brake components operation in McHenry, Ill., to Fredericktown,
bringing 35 new jobs to the current plant workforce of 120. Major customers
of this division include Yamaha, John Deere, E-Z-Go, and the Dana
Fredericktown plant.
Nick Cole, president of Dana's Off-Highway Systems Group, said the
rebuilding and expansion of the Fredericktown facility demonstrates the
company's commitment to the people at the plant and the Fredericktown
community.
"The fire completely destroyed our facility," Cole said. "If not for the
tremendous support of Dana people here in Fredericktown and across the globe,
as well the support of the local community, the state of Ohio, and our
customers, we would not have been able to continue operations successfully
during the past few months. We're very excited about expanding and growing
our Spicer Outdoor Power Equipment operations here in Fredericktown," he
added.
For the past five months, the Fredericktown plant has been temporarily
operating out of a 36,000-square-foot facility in Mount Vernon, Ohio, located
about eight miles from Fredericktown. Despite a total loss of the original
facility, the Dana people at the Fredericktown plant began serving customers
successfully less than 48 hours after the fire.
The Spicer Outdoor Power Equipment facility is part of Dana's Off-Highway
Systems Group which serves more than 700 global customers in eight primary
markets. The group's key components are off-highway axles, powershift
transmissions, transaxles, electronic controls, and hydraulic valves and
pumps. The Off-Highway Systems Group is made up of the Spicer Off-Highway
Products and Gresen Hydraulics divisions.
Dana Corporation is one of the world's largest independent suppliers to
