MSX International, Inc. to Host CAD/CAM Workshop Sponsored by the Design and Manufacturing Alliance (DMA)AUBURN HILLS, Mich., March 8 -- MSX International, a global provider of product development services and technology-based business services, will host a CAD/CAM workshop sponsored by the Design and Manufacturing Alliance, a partnership of the Genessee, Macomb, and Oakland Tech Prep Consortia, on March 9, 1999. The event will be held at MSX International's Warren facility at 2025 Concept Drive. The theme of the workshop is "Maximizing Resources, Education, Business and Government Linkage for Regional Market Driven Career Education in the Automotive Industry." The Design and Manufacturing Alliance was created to optimize the resources of education and industry. The intent of this initiative is the development of an aligned educational infrastructure to support automotive design and technical manufacturing skills. The consortium's objectives are to capture the needs of the industry, form alliances with industry professional organizations, and define career opportunities. In addition, the consortium utilizes and distributes "Best-in- Class" programs, develops curricula, and publicizes these programs to students and their parents. The workshop is an opportunity for middle school, high school, and community college Computer Aided Design (CAD) and shop teachers to receive real world exposure to current technologies and to a curriculum that supports the design and rapid prototyping processes used by MSX International. Attendees will be given a tour of rapid prototyping facilities which include stereo lithography, urethane modeling, cardboard modeling and computer numerical control (CNC) machining operations, as well as finite elements analysis, and virtual crash testing and General Motors' Unigraphics CAD training area. The keynote speaker, Cindy Ballard, Director of Career Preparation and Program Development of the State of Michigan Jobs Commission, will address "The Role of Education in Economic Development." MSX International, through collaboration with Central Michigan University, offers a unique B.S. degree program in Vehicle Design. The first of its kind in the United States, the degree provides comprehensive education in the design process and provides graduates with a powerful competitive edge in the automotive field. MSX International also provides high school students with an orientation to the design industry and mentors to guide their design career. The company also recruits candidates from local community colleges to participate in a design internship program.
