UNIDYNE Corporation Unit Reaches Agreement For Safety, Emissions Testing EquipmentEXTON, Pa., March 8 -- UNIDYNE Corporation today announced its Maxwell subsidiary has reached an agreement to be the sole supplier to provide Enhanced Emissions Testing Systems to Bound Brook, NJ-based Somerset Tire Services (STS), a regional tire and service center chain. Terms were not disclosed. UNIDYNE, an Exton, Penn.-based manufacturer of dynamometers, emission testing equipment and specialized electric motors, said the systems will be installed at STS outlets throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania during the next three months. STS, which presently operates 61 tire and service centers in the Tri-State area, will use the equipment as part of its effort to provide full inspection and repairs under the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Enhanced Emissions Inspection & Maintenance programs. The New Jersey program is operated by the New Jersey Department of Transportation's Division of Motor Vehicle Services. "This agreement represents an important step for Maxwell," said C. Eugene Hutcheson, chairman and chief executive officer of UNIDYNE. "STS is well- known for its superior service throughout the region, and has a reputation for buying quality. We believe the alliance between STS and Maxwell should provide New Jersey and Pennsylvania residents with efficient, cost-competitive and accurate emissions testing under the new enhanced Emissions Inspection and Maintenance programs." "We are pleased to have formed this alliance with Maxwell," said Michael J. Ryan, STS vice president of purchasing and logistics. "Maxwell's half- century of experience building dynamometers has enabled them to develop a high-quality, reliable system that our service centers will use for emissions testing, as well as on-site safety and performance testing on vehicles. Performing on-site tests, as opposed to road tests, will enable us to provide faster and higher quality service to our customers." Maxwell's enhanced emission testing systems feature a heavy-duty steel dynamometer with a unique modular design, which offers simplified installation and parts replacement. Each system also includes a five-gas BAR-97 emission analyzer and Maxwell's proprietary software, designed specifically to meet New Jersey and Pennsylvania requirements. The analyzer console includes a Pentium II IBM-compatible PC with Windows(R) 95 to fully integrate the system. "UNIDYNE's investments in engineering and technology, combined with 50 years experience building dynamometers, have positioned us as leaders in the emissions testing market. We expect our momentum to continue as single-shop owners and chain operators such as STS recognize the proven quality and service of our dynamometers and testing systems," said Hutcheson. UNIDYNE also announced that it was notified on February 26, 1999 that it was one of the first emissions-testing equipment suppliers to be certified for Phase Two of the Pennsylvania emissions program. In 1997, UNIDYNE was the nation's first approved supplier of emissions testing software and equipment under the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) newly mandated enhanced testing program, first launched in the state of Pennsylvania. The EPA's enhanced program requires repair shops and service centers to use new, more comprehensive emissions testing equipment like that manufactured by UNIDYNE. The Company currently is selling and installing emissions test systems for programs in Pennsylvania, Virginia and New Jersey. Exton, PA-based UNIDYNE Corporation and its subsidiaries manufacture, sell, service and finance a variety of products, including vehicle emissions testing systems, specialized electric motors, and variable speed drives and controls. UNIDYNE also manufactures engine and chassis dynamometer testing systems for a variety of large industrial customers, primarily in the automotive and heavy equipment industries. The Company employs 230 people at facilities in Kenosha, WI; San Francisco, CA; Anaheim, CA; Hazelton, PA; and Exton, PA.
