Ford Employees in Chicago Receive Record Profit SharingCHICAGO, March 3 -- Employees at Ford Motor Company's stamping and assembly plants received a nice reward today for all their hard work and dedication over the past year in the form of record-high profit sharing checks. Employees received checks averaging $6,100 which is almost 40 percent higher than the company's previous record of $4,400 in 1997. Profit sharing at Ford is based on profits and sales of the company's U.S. operations, excluding certain non-automotive subsidiaries. Since Ford began paying profit sharing in 1984, employees have received an average of more than $32,000. This is the 13th payment under the Profit Sharing Plan first agreed to by the UAW and Ford in 1982. The Chicago Stamping Plant, located in Chicago Heights, employs about 2,000 people and produces body panels for Ford assembly plants worldwide. The Chicago Assembly Plant employs about 2,700 people and builds the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable. The plant opened in 1924 and has built more than 10 million vehicles since opening.
