Ford Employees Earn Record Profit SharingKANSAS CITY, Mo., March 3 -- Ford Motor Company employees across the United States received record profit sharing checks today averaging $6,100. In Kansas City, Gerry Minor, plant manager, Kansas City Assembly gathered with some plant employees and their families at the Kansas City Auto Show to personally thank and congratulate them for their efforts. "This is a day for our employees," Minor said as he handed out profit sharing checks on the floor of the auto show. "Ford could not have achieved its outstanding performance in 1998 without the efforts of each and every employee. You should be very proud of your achievement. Thank you for your hard work and dedication." Profit sharing checks were distributed to more than 4,800 eligible employees at the Kansas City Assembly Plant where they assemble Ford Contours, F-150 and F-250 light pickup trucks and Mercury Mystiques. Ford Motor Company President and CEO Jac Nasser announced record profit sharing for 1998 on January 21. "We achieved record earnings, and continued to lower total costs in 1998," he said. "We have earned several quality and productivity awards and our efforts have paid off in enhanced shareholder value." Since Ford began paying profit sharing in 1984, employees will have received an average of more than $32,575. Today's check represents the 13th payment under the Profit Sharing Plan first agreed to by the UAW and Ford in 1982.
