NEW YORK, March 3 -- James D. Dunning, Jr., Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer of EMAP Petersen, Inc., the largest special interest
magazine publisher in the U.S. with more than 154 publications, announced
today the appointment of Tom Moloney as the new President and Chief Operating
Officer. Moloney, who will be based in New York, will take over from Dunning
the position of President and lead the Petersen team along with Dunning who
will retain the Chairman and CEO titles. Moloney currently serves as Chief
Executive of EMAP's Consumer Magazines in the UK and serves on EMAP plc's
board of directors. Under his leadership, the UK Consumer Division
experienced exceptional growth with profits doubling since Moloney's
appointment in 1995. In addition, John Baillie has been appointed EMAP
Petersen's new Chief Financial Officer and will be based in Los Angeles.
Richard Willis, Executive Vice President and CFO, will be leaving the company
to become a Vice President at Baylor University. Both appointments are
effective April 1, 1999.
Baillie, along with each of Petersen's seven publishing groups, which
include Automotive, Outdoor, Sports, Motorcycle, Action Sports, Teen and
Technology, as well as corporate support departments, will report directly to
Moloney. Moloney will report to Dunning.
Dunning commented, "Tom brings to Petersen a great deal of publishing
experience from his success in the UK. In his new role as President and COO
he will run the day to day operations of Petersen and manage our core
executive team. Together we will continue to realize our vision and strategy
of becoming a media and marketing solutions company for the 21st century. The
growing success of the Gravity Games launching this Fall on NBC, 14 different
TV shows that will air on Network, syndication or cable, and the accelerating
pace of development of our affinity business are just some of the momentum
builders for Petersen in 1999." He added, "The recent personnel additions of
Bill Harper as Vice President and Co-Publisher of the Petersen Magazine
Network and Mark Goldsmith as Vice President and Executive Publisher of the
Sports Group, along with announced internal promotions, demonstrate our
management depth and ability to deliver powerful programs for our
advertisers."
Kevin Hand, Group Chief Executive of EMAP plc, added, "These additions to
the U.S. team are designed to further support our acquisition and drive future
revenues. Jim's great strength has been developing the strategic direction of
Petersen in the last three years. Having Tom move to the U.S. will allow Jim
to continue to develop new growth opportunities, as he has done in the recent
acquisition of General Media's automotive titles."
Tom Moloney, 39, comes to the U.S. after serving for five years as Chief
Executive of EMAP's Consumer Magazines. In October 1998 he was appointed head
of EMAP's UK consumer operations, which includes magazine, television, radio
and internet properties. He joined EMAP in 1981 initially working in
business-to-business publications. In 1985 he moved to EMAP Metro which
