Hyundai February Retail Sales Notch Big Increase
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., March 2 -- Hyundai Motor America
today announced sales of 9,474 vehicles for the month of February.
"We are extremely pleased to see the 62.6 percent jump in Hyundai's retail
sales this month, as compared to February of last year," said Hyundai Motor
America's Vice President of Sales, Robert Cosmai. "While last February we had
heavy sales to fleet, for 1999 we've significantly reduced our emphasis on
this activity. Instead, we are concentrating on the core business, retail
sales. This has meant that while there wasn't a significant increase in the
overall sales for February when compared to last year, the critical retail
sales are much higher. Our dealers are doing a remarkable job and I
anticipate this momentum will carry into March, the beginning of the spring
sales season."
"Year to date our retail sales rose 58 percent compared to 1998 levels.
Our Sonata retail sales were up 90.4 percent over last February and our
Elantra sales rose 131 percent as compared to February 1998," Cosmai also
noted.
