American Honda Reports Record Sales in February
TORRANCE, Calif., March 2 -- Record February sales of Honda
and Acura vehicles were buoyed by all-time record truck sales and triple-digit
gains on sales of Odyssey minivan and Acura TL, according to figures released
today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
Record American Honda February sales of 81,910 were up 14.1 percent from
the same period last year, while total Honda and Acura truck sales posted a
new all-time record with sales of 17,473, up 74.7 percent for the month.
American Honda year-to-date sales are up 15.7 percent to 154,130 bolstered by
record February Accord, CR-V and Acura TL sales.
"Take a red hot economy, combine it with low interest rates, low inflation
and low unemployment, and it adds up to strong consumer demand for big ticket
items," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor
Co., Inc. "Usually we see things cool off in the first quarter, but there
wasn't even a pause this year."
Honda Division sales rose 12.4 percent to 73,689 for the month, marking
22 consecutive months of sales increases for the division. The all-new
Odyssey minivan posted its third month of triple-digit sales gains in February
with sales up 363.6 percent to 5,062, a new all-time any-month record for
Odyssey sales.
The Acura 3.2 TL continued its stellar run in February with sales up
142.3 percent to 3,554, driving total Acura Division sales to 8,221, up
32 percent over the same period last year. Year-to-date sales for the
division are up 30.6 percent to 15,798 through February.
