Saab Year-to-Date Sales Up 92 Percent; Strong 36% February Sales Increase Keeps Saab Momentum Building
NORCROSS, Ga., March 2 -- Saab Cars USA, Inc., the U.S.
importer and distributor of Saab 9-3 and 9-5 automobiles, announced sales of
2,318 units during February 1999, a strong 36 percent increase over February
1998 (1,703 units sold). This represents the best February Saab and its 215
U.S. retailers have enjoyed since 1989. Year to date, Saab sales have nearly
doubled over last year. Sales are up 92 percent (5,092 vs. 2,648) over the
same period in 1998.
Saab 9-3 Convertible sales (646 units) continued to fuel sales growth,
with a 33 percent increase over last February (489 units). Saab's 9-3 model
line accounted for 63 percent of total February sales (1,455 units).
    Saab 9-5 sales included a growing volume of top-of-the-line Saab 9-5 V6
models (293 units) as a result of increased availability of the automaker's
asymmetrically turbocharged V6 engine. The Saab 9-5 sedan continues to draw
new buyers to the Saab brand. During February 1999, 840 Saab 9-5 models were
retailed, compared to just 168 Saab 9000 variants during February 1998.
