Visteon Gives Customers a Sensory Experience With The World of Chassis Systems Display
DETROIT, March 1 -- Virtual reality is driving its way into
the customer experience at Visteon Automotive Systems.
Visteon is changing the face of automotive supplier exhibits with its
virtual "World of Chassis" technology display at the 1999 Society of
Automotive Engineers International Congress and Exposition.
Using graphic animation and surround sound, Visteon will give its
customers a unique glimpse of its chassis systems capabilities. A startling,
multi-image, multi-dimensional film presentation will help viewers experience
Visteon's chassis technology through a simulated vehicle that wheels around a
unique, futuristic city. Then, using high-definition computer graphics,
viewers will travel inside a variety of chassis systems, including steering,
braking and driveline, as they respond to various road conditions.
"This exhibit brings to life the chassis of the vehicle, acknowledging
that it is the very heart and soul of automotive manufacturing," said Ray
Schaffart, vice president and general manager, Chassis Systems, Visteon.
"This is a very dynamic presentation that will both educate and entertain our
customers."
This display makes a dramatic statement about the business philosophy and
direction of Visteon, from the quality and durability of specific chassis
components to the innovation and strength of its engineering technology.
"We wanted to create an environment where Visteon customers could not only
gain an understanding of our technology but also visualize the systems,
modules and components that make up a complete integrated chassis system,"
said Jim Thompson, marketing and technical sales manager, Chassis Systems,
Visteon. "But we also wanted to bring a little fun and excitement to their
chassis experience."
The display was created with a mini-theater design in mind. Visteon
wanted the display to envelope the audience with spectacular sound, lighting
and visual graphics that would hold their attention and challenge their
imagination. Designed by a collaborative creative team from Europe and North
America, the display uses a state-of-the-art, image enhancing computer system
to operate the display's video wall.
As guests enter the theater, they step up onto a slightly elevated walkway
overlooking an 8.5 by 4-foot video wall comprised of six projection cubes.
The video wall is accompanied by three 40-inch plasma screens that are below
the wall, but angled up at the audience, creating a space age, star ship feel.
Music, lighting, and sound effects have been customized for the unique, one-
of-a-kind display.
"The Visteon Chassis Systems display offers our customers something very
innovative and exciting," said Jeremy Goddard, Visteon account manager for
DaimlerChrysler, Visteon. "Not only will it succeed in creating an awareness
of our chassis technology, but it adds character to the systems innovation
taking place at Visteon today."
With a global delivery system consisting of more than 120 technical,
manufacturing, sales and service facilities located in 20 countries, Visteon
is leveraging the talents of its 82,000 employees to deliver innovative,
consumer-driven automotive solutions to its customers.
