Lincoln LS Makes a Splash at SAE March Dinner Meeting -- New Luxury Sport Sedan Redefines The Segment
    DETROIT, Feb. 26 --  The 2000 Lincoln LS is an advanced-
design luxury sport sedan and one of the most sophisticated production
automobiles ever developed by the Ford Motor Company .  The Society
of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Detroit Section will host Ford representatives
as they detail the development of the 2000 Lincoln LS.  The dinner meeting
presentation features Robert F. Widmer, Vehicle Line Director for Performance
and Luxury Cars; Helmuth Schrader, Director of Design, Large and Luxury Car
Vehicle Center; Charles E. Repp, Chief Program Engineer and Hau THAI-TANG,
Vehicle Development Manager.
    The all new LS represents Lincoln's entry into the luxury sport sedan
market and it's already making waves in this highly competitive segment. The
rear-wheel drive platform features impressive V6 and V8 four-valve overhead
camshaft engines.  Designed with drivers in mind, the LS shows grace under
pressure with its four-wheel drive independent suspension, all-speed traction
and yaw control.  Distinctive sporty lines give the new Lincoln a definite
European look with global appeal. Its handsome exterior is complemented by an
organized and disciplined, yet inviting interior that emphasizes comfort and
functionality.  The offering is rounded out by an impressive package of
standard features.
    In addition to the exciting Lincoln presentation, SAE Detroit Section has
designated this dinner meeting as "Engineering Executives Night" in
recognition of the many automotive managers in the Detroit area.  These
individuals represent the wide diversity of firms in the automotive industry.
Their management recognizes the importance of SAE membership and the
involvement of engineers in local activities and international committees.
    Join SAE as Ford Engineers share the evolution of 2000 Lincoln LS, on
Tuesday, March 16th at the Burton Manor, 27777 Schoolcraft, in Livonia.  A
social hour, sponsored by Visteon, begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at
6:30 p.m.; the presentation starts at 7:30 p.m.  Reservations are required and
can be obtained by calling the SAE Detroit Section at 248-357-3340.  Tickets
are priced at $29 each, $14.50 for SAE student members.  The meeting is open
to SAE members and non-members.
