Navigation Technologies Names Takehiro Hamanaka, as Managing Director
    CHICAGO, Feb. 26 -- Navigation Technologies Corporation, the
premier developer of map databases used by in-vehicle navigation systems,
today announced the appointment of Takehiro Hamanaka, as managing director of
the company's Japanese operations.  Hamanaka -- who will report to Navigation
Technologies' vice president of worldwide sales, Denis Cohen -- joins the
company from Sharp Corporation where he was a senior general manager.
    Hamanaka brings to Navigation Technologies more than 30 years of global
sales and general management experience in the electronics components and
computer peripherals industry.  From 1995, Hamanaka served as senior general
manager in Sharp's International Components group in Osaka, Japan, where he
managed the worldwide sales and marketing operations for the company's
electronics component products.  Previously, Hamanaka served as vice president
and general manager for Sharp Digital Information Products in Irvine, Calif.
where he oversaw the start-up of the company's image processing product line.
Earlier, he served as general manager of international OEM sales where he was
responsible for managing the private label manufacturing of Sharp products for
major customers such as General Electric, Philips, Thomson, Compaq and Texas
Instrument.
    "Mr. Hamanaka's accomplishments in building global relationships with some
of the world's largest electronics manufacturers make him the ideal candidate
to expand Navigation Technologies' relationships with the Japanese vehicle
manufacturers and systems manufacturers who have led the worldwide development
of the vehicle navigation market" said Cohen.  Navigation Technologies'
president, Ron Brumback added, "Mr. Hamanaka brings with him a deep
understanding of global management, marketing and sales.  He is a significant
addition to our management team."
    Hamanaka received his Bachelors in International Business from Kobe
University of Foreign Studies in 1968 and was an MBA candidate at Georgia
State University.
