CTS Corporation Announces New 16mm Rotary Encoder With Switch for Digital Interface Applications

    Elkhart, Ind.--Feb. 26, 1999--CTS Electrocomponents has introduced a new family of rotary encoders (Series 288) with optional momentary switch for digital interface applications. The new CTS encoder performs the functions of "several" variable resistor/switch products, at a fraction of the cost. Encoders allow direct interface to digital circuitry without signal conversion, as is required by analog circuitry.
    With digital interface rapidly becoming the design norm for electronic equipment and appliances in industry, at the office, in the home or in your vehicle, CTS, a market leader in analog products since the early 1900's, is introducing the first of several new rotary encoder products.
    Comparing the equivalent number of variable resistors and switches required to perform the same functions as a single encoder, the encoder is the convincing winner. Encoders not only allow engineers to simplify their design using far less board/panel space, but additionally require fewer inventoried components as well as fewer parts to handle in production.
    The new CTS Series 288 is a rugged, compact, 16mm rotary encoder available with 16 detents; 2 bit Binary, 4 bit Gray and 4 bit Hexidecimal codes; multiple terminal styles; choice of shaft lengths and trim; and optional momentary switch.
