Federal-Mogul Announces the Appointment of Gordon Ulsh as President and Chief Operating Officer to Lead New Operating StructureSOUTHFIELD, Mich., Feb. 24 -- Federal-Mogul Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Snell announces the appointment of Gordon A. Ulsh to the position of president and chief operating officer, effective immediately. Ulsh will lead a structure that closely integrates the operating units of Powertrain Systems, Sealing Systems, General Products, and corporate technology with the company's strategic planning and global aftermarket marketing, selling and distribution efforts. "Gordon's in-depth automotive experience, insightful leadership and strong drive toward continuous improvement will strengthen and keep Federal-Mogul in the hearts and minds of our customers," said Snell. "This new operating structure closely ties all of the functions from engineering through manufacturing to delivery to the ultimate customer, no matter the customer channel. Improving our time to market, being more responsive to customer requirements and continuing our progress toward our synergy targets remain a priority." Ulsh, 52, joined the leadership team at Federal-Mogul in October 1998 as executive vice president, worldwide aftermarket, following the acquisition of Cooper Industries automotive businesses. Prior to Federal-Mogul, Ulsh was vice president of Cooper Industries responsible for the automotive products segment. Before March 1997, he had been president of the Cooper Automotive Division, vice president of the Cooper Automotive Operations -- North America, and vice president and general manager of Cooper's Wagner Lighting operations. Ulsh joined Wagner in 1984 as vice president of operations, following 16 years in manufacturing and engineering management at Ford Motor Company. Ulsh earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business management from Butler University. He is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and Society of Manufacturing Engineers, serves as the Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association vice chairman and director, and is active in joint liaison committees with the Japanese Automotive Manufacturers Association and Japanese Automotive Parts Industries Association.
