Navigation Technologies Taps Andersen Consulting, Lawrence Chesler, As General Counsel
    CHICAGO, Feb. 24 -- Navigation Technologies Corporation, the
premier developer of map databases used by in-vehicle navigation systems,
today announced the appointment of Lawrence D. Chesler, as the company's vice
president and general counsel.  Chesler -- who will report to Navigation
Technologies' president and chief operating officer, Ronald Brumback -- joins
the company from Andersen Consulting where he was a senior member of the
firm's legal group.
    Chesler brings to Navigation Technologies 30 years of legal expertise that
includes both private practice and extensive experience in the computer and
telecommunications industries.  Prior to his position at Andersen Consulting,
Chesler served as vice president and general counsel for Northern Telecom Inc.
Earlier, he was vice president, secretary and general counsel for Computer
Consoles Inc., a developer of applied telecommunications and computer systems,
where he played a key role in negotiating the sale of the company to STC PLC,
which was subsequently acquired by Northern Telecom Ltd. in 1991.
    "Knowing Larry's career track record, international experience and his
deep knowledge of both law and technology, there's no one better suited to
fill this role," said Brumback.  "He brings the right mix of experience needed
to take Navigation Technologies into the future -- proven accomplishments in
hardware and software system sales negotiations, as well as a strong track
record in strategic development, mergers and acquisitions and global system
licensing.  In addition, Larry has successes in negotiating joint ventures,
international distributorships and OEM relationships."
    Chesler is a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation, past chair and current
member of the Executive Committee of the Corporate Counsel Section of the
New York State Bar Association, and a member of the Board of Directors of the
Computer Law Association.  In addition, Chesler is Vice Chair of Committee R
(the high technology section) of the International Bar Association, and he has
lectured extensively and published numerous articles on legal matters
pertaining to computers and high technology.  He earned his law degree from
the University of Buffalo, New York, and an MBA from the William E. Simon
School of the University of Rochester, New York.
