BSRS Restraint Systems Premiers Technology at 1999 SAE Congress and Exposition

DETROIT--(AutomotiveWire)--Feb. 24, 1999--Visitors at the 1999 Society of Automotive Engineers Exposition will have the opportunity to see the latest from BSRS Restraint Systems -- a joint venture of Breed and Siemens -- at Booth No. 2109, March 1-4 in Detroit.
The company will showcase its technology advancements in safety electronics, airbag systems, seat belts, steering wheels and integrated restraint systems designed to provide optimum protection to vehicle occupants.

Exhibit Features: Rear Impact Air Bag Protection System
BSRS will demonstrate a rear impact airbag protection system currently under development, which consists of an unfurled air bag in the seat back structure with a deployable head restraint section. The system is designed to reduce injury by preventing the lateral movement of an occupant's body along the seat back, which causes stress on the torso, neck, and head. The BSRS rear impact airbag is deployable through tear away seams located on the seat back and headrest structures designed to support these areas. The inflator for this entire safety system is located away from the occupant near the base of the seating structure.

Tailorable Occupant Protection System
A vehicle equipped with the BSRS Tailorable Occupant Protection System (TOPS(tm)) will illustrate the system's ability to "tailor" airbag and seat belt performance based on individual crash characteristics such as occupant weight, position, seat belt status, seat position and crash severity.

Remote Firing System
Details about the BSRS remote firing system will be on display, which streamlines electronic controls by moving power circuits and capacitors from the electronic control unit to the igniter. With this firing system, more functions can be controlled and assembly work is more cost effective.

BSRS Restraint Systems was formed in 1998 by BREED Technologies and Siemens Automotive to meet the increasing market demand for integrated automotive occupant safety systems. Headquartered in Alzenau, Germany, the company has a strong network of sales offices around the world and direct access to the extensive engineering, testing and manufacturing facilities of both BREED and Siemens.
