Adept Technology's SILMA Division Completes First Phase of Software Roll-Out to Ford Manufacturing

    SAN JOSE, Calif.--Feb. 23, 1999--

SILMA's CimStation Inspection Introduced Into Ford Manufacturing
Worldwide

    SILMA, a division of Adept Technology, Inc. , today announced the completion of the first phase of CimStation Inspection implementation into Ford Motor Company's worldwide manufacturing facilities. Initial orders have been successfully implemented in more than ten separate domestic and international manufacturing sites. Recently received orders will provide additional seats of CimStation Inspection to Ford's worldwide manufacturing facilities as part of their on-going automation programs.
    "Ford's selection of CimStation Inspection was the result of extensive review and testing of all the available solutions," said Charlie Duncheon, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Adept Technology. "It will allow Ford to utilize concurrent engineering practices to increase productivity and decrease costly production downtime."
    SILMA's CimStation Inspection software will be a part of Ford's ongoing design engineering automation programs to reduce new product development and introduction cycles. It will be used to simulate and off-line program Ford's Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) directly from 3D CAD models. The Software uses 3D simulation and virtual manufacturing technology to achieve error-free CMM off-line programming in a production environment up to 10 times faster than traditional CMM programming methods.
