AIAG and Bellcore Announce ANX(R) Certification of AT&T NetworkSOUTHFIELD, Mich., Feb. 23 -- The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) and Bellcore today announced that the Internet Protocol (IP) network of AT&T has achieved Automotive Network eXchange(R) (ANX(R)) certification, and that AT&T may now operate as an ANX Certified Service Provider (CSP). "We are pleased that AT&T has joined Ameritech, Bell Canada and EDS in becoming an ANX Certified Service Provider. This helps to drive competition, improve services and offer ANX trading partners more choice," said Raymond J. Mitzel, AIAG executive director. "Through ANX CSPs like AT&T, the ANX service is providing the auto industry with a leading-edge vehicle for safe and efficient business communication over a secure virtual private IP network." "The development of the ANX service is a major step in the evolution of supply chain management, and becoming ANX certified opens up tremendous opportunities for AT&T," said Kathleen B. Early, vice president, AT&T Internet Services. "Internetworking is redefining the rules of marketing and distribution, offering companies the ability to perform real-time electronic commerce." "The ANX service has been designed to meet automotive trading partner business requirements for electronic commerce," said Bryan Whittle, general manager of the ANX Overseer business at Bellcore. "The ANX Certification Program has helped to identify the ANX CSPs that can deliver consistent, high- quality business internetworking services for automotive trading partners." To achieve ANX certification, ANX CSPs (who connect trading partners) and ANX certified exchange point operators or CEPOs (who interconnect ANX CSPs) are required by the ANX Overseer -- Bellcore -- to meet a rigorous set of published service quality metrics. Service providers interested in ANX Certification can obtain more information at Bellcore's ANX Overseer website at http://www.anxo.com. The ANX network is a secure, business-quality data communications network that links automotive suppliers and vehicle manufacturers electronically over one multi-provider Virtual Private Network (VPN). The ANX service is designed to meet the security, reliability and performance needs for mission-critical data, with ANX connections replacing the complex and limiting communications infrastructure currently used among automotive trading partners. Among the companies that helped drive the development of the ANX network are: Caterpillar, Chrysler Corp., Dana Corp., Dofasco Inc., Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp., PACCAR, Robert Bosch Corp., TRW Inc. and UT Automotive, Inc. Bellcore, a SAIC Company, provides software, engineering, consulting and training services to optimize the performance of communication networks worldwide. Bellcore was created in 1984, employs 5,700 professionals, and has revenues of more than $1 billion. Bellcore (http://www.bellcore.com) is headquartered in Morristown, NJ, with offices throughout the United States, Europe, Central and South America and Asia Pacific. Founded in 1982, the AIAG is a not-for-profit trade association of over 1,500 automotive and truck manufacturers and their suppliers.
