At SAE Congress, TRW to Show How it Accelerates Technology, Puts the Brakes on CostDETROIT, Feb. 22 -- At the 1999 Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International Congress & Exposition here next week, TRW -- the global automotive supplier -- will showcase a wide range of integrated modules and systems that accelerate technology and put the brakes on cost. TRW's two-story exhibit (booth #1800) will feature a presentation of the company's advanced systems and modules for steering and suspension, occupant restraints, security and convenience electronics, fasteners and engine valve trains -- all designed to enhance vehicle value and reliability, as well as save automakers development time and assembly costs. Highlights of the exhibit will include: * Pyrotechnic Fuse Box -- a safety unit that, in a crash, disconnects select high-current power connections in less than one millisecond -- significantly decreasing the risk of vehicle fires, but still providing an emergency power circuit for safety-related items; * Advanced Restraint Systems -- smart, adaptive restraints that tailor protection to occupants and draw from TRW's full-range of safety products, including crash sensors, occupant sensors, multi-stage inflators, Heated Gas Inflators (HGI) and energy-management seat belts; * Integrated Vehicle Chassis System -- concept combines TRW Electrically Assisted Steering (EAS), Active Roll Control (ARC) and other chassis systems into a next-generation vehicle system that optimizes control, handling and performance to enhance the driving experience; * Inflatable Tubular Structure (ITS) and Inflatable Tubular Torso Restraint (ITTR) -- inflatable restraints -- created by Simula, Inc. and being developed/marketed in conjunction with TRW -- that can enhance occupant protection in frontal collisions, side impacts and rollovers; and * Integrated Overhead Console -- a modular-designed information center that incorporates several of TRW's key security, safety, information and convenience product features. The above-the-beltline console includes the TRW TireWatch(TM) system; Universal Home Access system; Mayday system; remote keyless entry system; vehicle security system; and trip computer display. The exhibit will also underscore TRW's extensive experience in systems engineering, program management and aerospace electronics -- and how this experience is leveraged to help automakers around the world. TRW Inc. is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, and has sales of nearly $12 billion. The company is one of the largest independent automotive suppliers in the world with more than $7 billion in worldwide automotive sales in 1998. TRW also provides advanced technology products and services for the space, defense and information systems markets worldwide.
