Haas Automation, Inc., Chooses Solidworks as Its Standard 3D Solid Modeling Platform
CONCORD, Mass.(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 1999--SolidWorks to be Used in the Design of Haas CNC Machine Tools and
Rotary Tables
SolidWorks(R) Corporation, the leading provider of cost-effective, easy-to-use production solid modeling solutions for the mainstream design-centric market, today announced that Haas Automation has chosen SolidWorks solid modeling software as its corporate-wide standard for 3D design. Haas has purchased 25 seats of SolidWorks software and will use it to design its extensive line of CNC machine tools.
Haas Automation, Inc., headquartered in Oxnard, CA, is the largest machine tool builder in the United States. The company's machining centers, CNC lathes and rotary tables are widely used by companies that manufacture or mill metal parts. Known internationally for the high accuracy, repeatability and durability of its machine tools, Haas has become the top equipment choice of many aerospace, automotive and consumer product companies. Some of Haas' customers include General Motors, Lockheed Martin, Parker Hannifin and Callaway Golf.
"We chose SolidWorks because it is incredibly intuitive, powerful, affordable and easy to learn," notes Rhett Everett, engineering manager for Haas. "In fact, one of our project engineers had no previous experience using 3D design software. After only one week of SolidWorks training, he was able to easily model a large, complex assembly he had been designing in 2D. SolidWorks is dramatically quicker, easier and more powerful than any CAD system we have seen on the market. We swear by SolidWorks."
Everett continues, "And SolidWorks is saving us time and money. One of our first projects using SolidWorks was the design of a gantry mill. We began the project in 2D and are now converting it into SolidWorks. Using our previous CAD system, the gantry mill project would have taken almost 75% longer to complete."
"Haas' success demonstrates the impact that SolidWorks is having on manufacturing companies as they move from 2D to 3D solid modeling," said John McEleney, vice president of Product Marketing for SolidWorks. "SolidWorks' ease-of-use, powerful modeling and overall superior performance allow companies to improve the quality of their product design process and drive down cycle times. SolidWorks is pleased to contribute to Haas' development of world-renowned machine tools."
Haas also purchased one of SolidWorks' partner products, SmarTeam-Works, from Smart Solutions. SmarTeam-Works is a technical data management (TDM/PDM) solution designed to give SolidWorks users the tools to create, edit, view, control and annotate SolidWorks and office type documents. Haas will be using SmarTeam-Works in conjunction with SolidWorks to design its CNC machine tools.
