Service Technicians Hold Special Day at SAE CongressWARRENDALE, Pa., Feb. 18 -- The Service Technicians Society (STS), an affiliate of the Society of Automotive Engineers, will celebrate Service Technicians Day at the 1999 SAE International Congress and Exposition on Tuesday, March 2 at the Cobo Center, Detroit, Michigan. During SAE Congress, STS will hold a "conference within a conference" focusing on critical issues of the service and repair industry. Mayor Dennis Archer of Detroit has proclaimed March 2 "Service Technicians Day" in Detroit. "I commend the Service Technicians Society for raising the bar for skilled workers in the automotive and transportation industries," said Mayor Archer in his proclamation. STS will host two panels on service technician issues on March 2. At 9 a.m., a distinguished panel will discuss how to enhance service technician productivity by using the Internet. At 2 p.m., another panel will explore the theory and the realities of several current Mandatory Certification and Licensing programs and their effect on industry stakeholders including service technicians, consumers, manufacturing and vendors. STS was established in 1996 and currently has more than 5700 members in 50 states and 16 foreign countries. The Society provides a forum for technical information exchange as well as details on future design trends that will affect the technician; early announcements about new tools and equipment; and networking with other technicians, shop owners, and industry representatives.
