Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep(R) and Dodge Vehicles Garner Major Automotive Awards
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 17 -- With 1999-model year sales
off to a strong start, the Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep(R) and Dodge brands of
DaimlerChrysler have already captured some of the industry's most
prestigious and significant vehicle awards.
"With more then 25 industry awards collected so far this model year, each
and every one underscores the wide appeal of our cars, truck, minivans and
sport-utility vehicles sold under these brands," said A.C. (Bud) Liebler,
DaimlerChrysler Senior Vice President - Marketing. "Receiving so many of the
industry's most coveted awards across so many vehicle segments shows we are
really meeting the needs and desires of our customers."
Some of the most recent awards include the Jeep Grand Cherokee as
MotorWeek's "Best Family Sport Vehicle" award, and the Jeep Wrangler named
"Best Compact SUV Value" by IntelliChoice(R). Intellichoice also honored the
Plymouth Voyager and Chrysler Town & Country minivans as "Best Overall Value
of the Year" in the under-$22,500 and over-$22,500 categories, respectively.
Other awards earned this year in North America include:
* Motor Trend magazine's "Car of the Year" award (Chrysler 300M)
* Car and Driver magazine's "10 Best" list
(Chrysler 300M and Dodge Intrepid)
* Consumers' Digest "Best Buys"
(Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Caravan minivans -- both for the 10th year
in a row)
* Petersen's 4-Wheel and Off-Road magazine's "4x4 of the Year"

* Four Wheeler Magazine's "Four Wheeler of the Year"

* Popular Science "Best of What's New" award
(Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge ESX II hybrid concept car)
The Jeep Grand Cherokee alone garnered over a dozen industry awards, most
notably the esteemed "North American Truck of the Year" honors.
