Speedway Motorsports/Action Performance Sign Sponsorship And Licensing Agreement
    CONCORD, N.C., Feb. 17 -- Officials of Speedway Motorsports,
Inc. today announced a five-year comprehensive sponsorship and
licensing agreement with Action Performance Companies, Inc. .
    The agreement grants Action Performance trackside licensing and
merchandising rights for NASCAR's Winston Cup and Busch Grand National race
events held at all six Speedway Motorsports' facilities, including exclusive
rights to market and sell commemorative event die-cast vehicles.  Speedway
Motorsports will also use the Chase Authentics brand of event apparel at its
facilities.
    Speedway Motorsports' facilities include Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bristol
Motor Speedway, Lowe's Motor Speedway at Charlotte, Las Vegas Motor Speedway,
Sears Point Raceway and Texas Motor Speedway.  Speedway Motorsports'
facilities host 10 NASCAR Winston Cup events, including the Coca-Cola 600, the
NAPA 500 and the Primestar 500, and seven NASCAR Busch Grand National races.
    The contract's sponsorship terms provide Action with a broad range of
advertising and sponsorship campaigns, including signage, event program
advertising and title sponsorship of various Performance Racing Network (PRN)
programming.  As part of the agreement Action has also purchased hospitality
packages, suites at four SMI facilities and entitlement of SMI's world-famous
pre-race shows at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway and Sears
Point Raceway.
    Action also will be the exclusive title sponsor of the "Collector
Pavilion," a new event featuring a 10,800 square-foot open-air shopping mall
at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Lowe's Motor Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway and
Texas Motor Speedway.
    "This is a great multi-dimensional agreement that will allow us to market
quality products that will directly benefit our customers," said H.A. "Humpy"
Wheeler, SMI president and chief operating officer.  "This agreement will
allow us to further maximize our souvenir business, one of our biggest
event-related revenue line items.  It will also increase our buying power and
allow us to benefit from Action's creativity.  We will also have the
opportunity to do more projects together, increase our marketing leverage and
promote the brand name of SMI and its individual facilities."

corporate branding strategy by enabling us to have a greater trackside
