Adept Technology's SILMA Division and Ford Motor Company Complete First Phase of $15M Agreement

    SAN JOSE, Calif.--Feb. 16, 1999--

Orders Worth $2.5M Introduce SILMA's CimStation Inspection
    Into Ford Manufacturing Worldwide

SILMA, a division of Adept Technology, Inc. , today announced that Ford Motor Company's Vehicle Operations Group, based in Dearborn, MI, has placed cumulative orders with Adept worth approximately $2.5 million for CimStation Inspection licenses and engineering services.
The orders complete the first phase of their $15 million multi-year agreement, previously announced in August, to incorporate CimStation Inspection into Ford manufacturing worldwide. The initial order has already been successfully implemented in more than ten separate domestic and international manufacturing sites. Recently received orders will provide additional seats of CimStation Inspection to Ford's worldwide manufacturing facilities as part of their on-going automation programs.
"Ford's selection of CimStation Inspection was the result of extensive review and testing of all the available solutions," said Charlie Duncheon, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Adept Technology. "It will allow Ford to utilize concurrent engineering practices to increase productivity and decrease costly production downtime."
"Ford and SILMA have successfully deployed CimStation Inspection at more than ten facilities worldwide, including sites in the United States, Europe, and Mexico," said Bob Kidd, CMM/DATA management engineer at Ford Motor Company, Global Dimensional Control Department. "The software is currently assisting in the launch of several new vehicle programs. We look forward to continuing our synergistic team approach in achieving our goals in quality, cost, and speed."
SILMA's CimStation Inspection software will be a part of Ford's ongoing design engineering automation programs to reduce new product development and introduction cycles. It will be used to simulate and off-line program Ford's Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) directly from 3D CAD models. The Software uses 3D simulation and virtual manufacturing technology to achieve error-free CMM off-line programming in a production environment up to 10 times faster than traditional CMM programming methods.
