ANSYS, Inc. Selected for Strategic Computer-Aided Engineering Plan By French Automotive Component Giant ValeoSOUTHPOINTE, Pa., Feb. 16 -- ANSYS, Inc. announced today that France's leading automotive components supplier Valeo has selected ANSYS, Inc. as its primary supplier of design verification and optimization software. The agreement between the two companies is for two years and extends across all of Valeo's operations. Both companies expect significant benefits from the Valeo/ANSYS agreement. "We see ANSYS(R) as a key element in our array of state-of-the-art engineering tools to help us reduce the size, weight, noise, and time-to-market of our products," said Dr. Emmanuel J. d'Orsay, group director, Valeo Product Development in Paris. "The intent of this agreement is to expand the role of ANSYS 5.5 in units already using it and to introduce ANSYS to those which are not," he added. According to Dr. d'Orsay, Valeo's plans for ANSYS 5.5 include: -- Introducing simulation as soon as possible in the new-product development process, -- Integrating analysis with the mechanical design software used at Valeo, CATIA from Dassault Systemes, -- Implementing Multiphysics, -- Developing multiple-function design optimization, and -- Minimizing physical prototyping. "We are proud to have been selected by an industry leader like Valeo as its primary software provider for design verification and optimization. The commitment to implement ANSYS across its organization is most gratifying," said Peter J. Smith, chairman and CEO, ANSYS, Inc. "This agreement is a strong indication that ANSYS, Inc. continues to deliver the right levels of power and flexibility in our products and services to create much needed collaborative engineering environments that save time, money, and materials while assuming stronger, safer, more reliable products." Valeo uses ANSYS software in operating divisions as diversified as clutches, climate control, windshield wiper systems, electrical systems, friction materials, and engine cooling. An independent automotive components and systems supplier, Valeo serves all car and truck manufacturers in Europe, North and South America, and Asia. Estimated sales in 1998 will be the equivalent of US$7.14 billion. Some 75 percent of 1998 sales were generated outside France. Valeo has 119 production plants and 30 research and development centers in 20 countries. R&D spending represents about 6 percent of sales. Worldwide, Valeo employs 50,000 people, more than 15 percent of whom are engineers and technical support. About ANSYS, Inc.
