Atlas Technologies Lands $4 Million Quick Die Change OrderEarns IS0 9001 Certification NEW YORK, Feb. 11 -- Productivity Technologies Corporation , announced today that its operating subsidiary, Atlas Technologies, Inc., has received an order from a North American-based automotive manufacturer for automatic quick die change equipment valued at more than $4 million. "This order," said Michael D. Austin, President & CEO of Atlas, "is yet another step towards providing this customer with a common solution for their global operations, and further establishes Atlas as the world leader in large press quick die change systems, with approximately 60% market share. Once we complete these installations we'll have installed quick die change carts on more than 400 major stamping presses for this one customer alone, out of approximately 1,500 presses used in their operations, and 6,200 presses used by auto makers worldwide." The systems being ordered are patterned after a number of other Atlas quick die change lines previously installed in the manufacturer's various North American facilities. The systems will be used to convert three lines of presses which stamp body panel components into flexible systems capable of automated 2 minute die changes from one part to another, as opposed to a traditional time requirement of 4 to 8 hours. This quick change capability provides sufficient process flexibility to run a wide number of vehicle body panels on the press line, using just-in-time scheduling with substantially reduced work-in-process. Atlas, based in Fenton, Mich., also announced it was recently awarded ISO 9001 quality system certification. This achievement marks the culmination of more than 2 years of company wide efforts focused on improving product and service quality through improved internal processes. ISO certification helps assure customers that Atlas' processes are capable of manufacturing the highest quality pressroom automation equipment, including: quick die change automation, automatic die storage and retrieval systems, sheet metal destacking and stacking equipment, robotic transfer press automation and finger tooling, and turnkey stamping press systems.
