Meritor Automotive Elects De La Riva Corporate OfficerTROY, Mich., Feb. 10 -- Meritor Automotive Inc. announced today that its board of directors has elected Juan L. De La Riva, senior vice president, Business Development and Communications, reporting directly to Meritor Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Larry D. Yost. In this position De La Riva is responsible for directing the company's global business development initiatives, business intelligence and communications activities. The position was previously held by Rodney J. Walter who is on medical leave from the company. "The election of Juan De La Riva further leverages Meritor's business development and communications expertise to strategically align with the company's business direction," said Larry D. Yost. "Juan's broad knowledge of the automotive industry combined with his track record of leadership are integral to advancing Meritor's global growth strategies as demonstrated by his critical role in orchestrating the company's recent acquisitions of Euclid Industries, Volvo's heavy truck axle manufacturing operations and LucasVarity's Heavy Vehicle Braking Systems business," Yost added. Prior to his current position, De La Riva was the vice president, Business Development and Communications and prior to that served as the managing director of Meritor's Light Vehicles Systems Wheels business, based in Limeira, Brazil. De La Riva holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from New York University and an MBA from the University of Detroit. Meritor, with 1998 sales of more than $3.8 billion, is a global supplier of a broad range of components and systems for commercial, specialty and light vehicle OEMs and the aftermarket. Meritor consists of two businesses: Heavy Vehicle Systems, a leading supplier of drivetrain systems and components for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, trailers and off-highway equipment and specialty vehicles, including military, bus and coach, and fire and rescue; and Light Vehicle Systems, a major supplier of roof, door, access control, suspension and seat adjusting systems, and wheels for passenger cars, light trucks and sport utility vehicles.
