DaimlerChrysler President to be Named World Trader of the Year By the Detroit Regional Chamber on March 19DETROIT, Feb. 8 -- Thomas T. Stallkamp, president of DaimlerChrysler Corp., will be presented the World Trader of the Year Award at the Detroit Regional Chamber 1999 International Consular Ball, Friday, March 19 at The Ritz-Carlton, Dearborn. Presented annually by the Chamber's International Business Council, the award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions in promoting international trade and positioning Regional Detroit in the global marketplace. As president, Stallkamp is responsible for the integration of the automotive and heavy truck activities for the new DaimlerChrysler Corp. Since joining the former Chrysler in 1980, he has held numerous management and executive positions throughout the automaker. Prior to his appointment as president, Stallkamp was executive vice president - procurement and supply and general manager - minivan operations. "The merger is a true example of a global corporation and one that we will look to as a leader," said Chamber president and CEO Richard E. Blouse Jr., CCE. "The Chamber and the IBC work to form global, strategic alliances to help members expand their markets. We are fortunate to have such a fine example in our own back yard." The Chamber's International Consular Ball also recognizes the Consular Corps of Greater Detroit, official representatives of foreign governments serving this area. The International Business Council is an advisory body for international programming and policy at the Detroit Regional Chamber. It carries out some of the goals of the Detroit Regional Economic Partnership, the economic development arm of the Chamber responsible for marketing the 10-county region to the world.
