Newspaper Automotive Ads Honored with NAA Dandy Awards
VIENNA, Va., Feb. 6 -- The Newspaper Association of America
(NAA) honored distinguished automotive advertising in newspapers today with
the 1999 DANDY (Dealer Automotive Newspaper Display Advertising) Awards.
Winners were recognized during a press conference at the National Automobile
Dealers Association (NADA) annual exposition in San Francisco.
FirstAmerica Automotive of San Francisco won NAA's 1999 Best of Show Award
and a $2,500 cash prize for the best use of newspapers for a single ad,
campaign or series of contest categories. FirstAmerica has received Best of
Show honors for two years in a row and is the first dealership in the history
of the awards to be so honored. (Best-of-show art is available electronically
by request.)
In existence for 23 years, the DANDY Awards recognize creative and
outstanding automotive dealer display advertising in newspapers. The winning
entries are featured in NAA's DANDY Newspaper 1999, which is distributed at
the NADA exposition as well as to dealers, ad agencies and newspapers around
the country.
"Newspapers are an extremely valuable advertising tool for automotive
marketers. This year's DANDY Awards entries displayed a variety of innovative
ways to reach consumers," said NAA President and CEO John F. Sturm. "The
winning entries demonstrate how imaginative, and effective, automotive dealers
can be with newspaper advertising."
