Analogy Introduces SaberHarness(TM) Design Suite
Software Tools Create Automotive Wire Harnesses From Concept to Manufacture

BEAVERTON, Ore., Feb. 4 -- Analogy, Inc. today
introduced SaberHarness(TM), a suite of software tools that transforms
automotive wire harness design from a process that is purely mechanical to one
that includes electrical analysis before going from design to manufacturing.
Analogy's new technology helps manage the increasing complexity of
electronic content in automobiles, trucks and heavy equipment by meeting the
challenges of variations of harness configurations, and managing design
changes throughout the engineering, manufacturing, service and documentation
structures.
"Electrical harnesses are a critical component in today's sophisticated
vehicles," said David Smith, Analogy's Vice President of Advanced Development.
"SaberHarness addresses harness design requirements with ease of design entry,
links to 3D CAD software, built-in simulation, and a strong manufacturing
focus."
The SaberHarness Design Suite consists of the SaberHarness wiring editor,
a DC simulator, an optional mixed-signal transient simulator compatible with
Saber(R), SaberBundle(TM) editor, and interfaces to mechanical 3D CAD software
such as CATIA(R) and Pro/ENGINEER(R).

Create Harness with SaberHarness Wiring Editor
SaberHarness is used to design and simulate electrical wiring systems or
harnesses. It simplifies creation of a schematic with an easy-to-use editor
that defines the electrical functionalism using components familiar to the
designer such as wires, connectors and splices. The entire harness design is
stored in a central database that reduces the risk of errors caused by data
duplication and entry tasks.
The physical wire model included with SaberHarness allows the exact
geometric and material characteristics of real wires to be accurately
simulated. Dynamic thermal effects are included which inform the user if the
wire gets hot enough to melt the insulation or even fail altogether. With the
built in failure effect modeling, a designer can then check that the overall
design will fail in a safe-state. SaberHarness is integrated with 3D
Mechanical CAD software. Design information can be transferred from
SaberHarness, manipulated by the 3D CAD software, then transferred back for a
more accurate representation of the physical design in the electrical domain.

    Manufacture the Harness with SaberBundle
SaberBundle creates the 2D bundle drawings needed by harness manufacturers
to easily produce a harness with the proper wire gauge, length, connector
shells, splices and non-electrical elements, such as grommets. It uses a
common database with SaberHarness so that any changes made in one program are
reflected throughout the design, thus preserving data integrity.
Harness designers can easily manipulate the design by changing or adding
connector shells, moving the location of a splice to make it easier to
manufacture, or redefining which wire will populate a bundle segment.
Drawings produced by SaberBundle can be exported using graphic formats
such as DXF. The drawings also provide valuable information for purchasing,
service and publication groups.

    Link to Internal Databases
SaberHarness provides a flexible method to export harness information by
3D MCAD, manufacturing and documentation. Using the built-in SQL interface,
data can be stored on company corporate databases to generate cost tables or
other user-defined tables. This results in higher data integrity and easy
retrieval by other programs.

    Simulate to Make It Right
SaberHarness has fully integrated simulation capability. By simulating a
design, the engineer can verify that wires, fuses, connectors and other
components work properly before building a single prototype. With its built-
in DC analysis, along with back annotation, SaberHarness can be used to
establish steady-state currents, and predict voltage drop, energy loss and
failure effects such as grounds going open circuit.
Adding the Transient Analysis/SaberScope option expands available analyses
to include effects to inrush currents, voltage drop over time and
temperatures. Results of transient analysis can be viewed using SaberScope,
Analogy's powerful signal analyzer.

    Price and Availability
The basic SaberHarness product includes SaberHarness wiring editor and
built-in DC analysis. Options include transient simulation and analysis as
well as links to 3D MCAD software.
SaberBundle creates 2D drawings used by harness manufacturers.
SaberHarness and SaberBundle are available on Sun Solaris, HP-UX and
Windows NT platforms. List price of Saberness is $24,995 (U.S.). List price
of SaberBundle is $8,000 (U.S).
