Volvo Construction Equipment Selects Unigraphics Solutions' Solid Edge For Vehicle Design
VCE to Implement Solid Edge Mechanical Design Software as a Global
                                 CAD Solution

ST. LOUIS, Feb. 4 -- Unigraphics Solutions Inc.
today announced its mechanical design software Solid Edge has been selected by
Volvo Construction Equipment as its global computer aided design (CAD)
solution. The agreement -- in excess of $1 million -- enables hundreds of
Volvo Construction Equipment designers worldwide to design Volvo's award
winning line of wheel loaders, excavators, articulated haulers and other road-
building and road-maintenance machines.
Volvo Construction Equipment attributed its selection of Solid Edge to
sophisticated modeling capabilities and an ease-of-use that will allow the
company to expand CAD productivity to all designers, not just a relatively
small design group.
"This product is right for us," says Hans Wallin, senior application
engineer at Volvo Information Technology. "We turned to Solid Edge for two
basic reasons: It has a high level of functionality to model our parts and it
embodies STREAM technology, which makes the software easy to use and learn.
STREAM technology empowers additional designers to become more productive as
they quickly create 3-D models and drawings."
"In order to shorten our design time, we needed one single desktop
solution, rather than a mix of Unix and Windows systems," says Wallin.
"Solid Edge is a Windows standard, with important object linking and embedding
capabilities for technical software, as well as office products."
Unigraphics Solutions applauds Volvo Construction Equipment for placing
the power of mechanical CAD into a larger base of designers. "Volvo
Construction Equipment is proving that sophisticated modeling capabilities can
be expanded beyond the power users, into the hands of designers who demand
more intuitive and easy-to-use tools," says Bill McClure, Director of the
Solid Edge line of business at Unigraphics Solutions.

Solid Edge STREAM Technology: The Solid Edge Advantage
Solid Edge STREAM technology is a proprietary technology built into Solid
Edge which boosts essential CAD user productivity by capturing engineers'
solid modeling design intentions through inference logic and
decision-management concepts. Solid Edge STREAM technology specifically
addresses CAD system usability and its direct effect on engineering
productivity, return on investment and ease of adopting a new CAD system.
"Until recently, most CAD packages were only compared on a
feature/functionality basis, but organizations are beginning to realize that
features and functionality do not necessarily translate into increased
engineering productivity," says McClure. "Solid Edge STREAM technology's
approach to CAD takes user interaction and decision management into account to
boost design productivity."
Solid Edge is written for Microsoft Windows NT, Windows(R) 95 and
Windows(R) 98 operating systems, and is distributed in eight languages to
customers around the world, including Boeing, Kaiser Optical, Alcoa, Liebert
Corp., TRACO, W.F. Mickey Body Co., Subsea Ventures Inc., Value Plastics,
Kaeser Kompressoren, Walker Engineering, Prodrive, USSC Group, Identification
Technologies International and Watsco Components, among others.
