Delco Remy America Names Four New Executives
    ANDERSON, Ind., Feb. 3 -- Delco Remy America, Inc.
, President Richard L. Stanley named four veteran managers to key
executive positions.
    Terry J. Pahls advances from his current assignment as director of Heavy
Duty manufacturing planning to vice president of quality.  G. Dale Starks,
currently program manager for the Automotive Systems Division, advances to
vice president of engineering.  These positions will report directly to
Stanley.
    Motor Operations Manager Harry E. Schmink advances to vice president of
Heavy Duty Sales and Marketing, reporting to Heavy Duty Division Senior Vice
President and General Manager M. Lawrence Parker.
    Steve Gudgel joins DRA as corporate director of manufacturing operations-
motors.  Previously he was Anderson site manager for Delphi-E.  Steve will
report to Vice President of Operations John Gladney.
    "These assignments reinforce DRA's global strategy to excel in customer
satisfaction and product value by focusing proven leadership on key business
objectives," noted Stanley.
    Pahls, a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Anderson, earned a bachelor
of science degree in mechanical engineering from General Motors Institute, and
a master of science in chemical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute.  He began his career with the Delco Remy Division of General Motors
in 1966 as a college cooperative student.  Following graduation, he became
manufacturing engineer in Anderson and advanced to several managerial and
director-level positions, including program manager for domestic and overseas
projects and assistant staff engineer for Light Duty Motors.  Pahls joined
Delco Remy America in 1994.
    Starks graduated from Anderson High School and Rose Poly Technic Institute
of Technology with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.  He
served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, completing his tour of
duty with the rank of captain.  He began his career with the former Delco Remy
Division of General Motors in 1959, advancing through a variety of key
positions including executive responsibilities in engineering, manufacturing
and international sales.  Starks worked with Saginaw Division of GM and
American Axle Corporation before joining DRA in 1994.
    Schmink graduated from Frankton High School and earned a bachelor of
science degree in accounting at Indiana University and an MBA in finance at
Ball State University.  He began his career as a member of the audit staff at
Price Waterhouse & Co.  He joined the former Guide Division of General Motors,
starting in 1981 as a financial analyst and ending his tenure with GM as
director of venture analysis in Warren, Michigan.
    Gudgel graduated from Lapel High School and earned a bachelor of science
degree in liberal arts from Indiana University before starting his career at
Allegheny Ludlum Steel.  In 1977, he joined the former Delco Remy Division of
General Motors, advancing to several supervisory and managerial positions.  In
1992, he was promoted to Sales and Marketing customer program manager in Troy,
Michigan.  Gudgel joined Delphi-E in 1996 and held the executive position of
Anderson site manager prior to joining DRA.
    These assignments complete the initial personnel realignments to support
Stanley, who was promoted to president of DRA last November.  Delco Remy
America is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delco Remy International, Inc.
    Delco Remy International, Inc., became a public company with
an initial public offering of stock in December 1997.  The company designs,
manufactures, remanufactures and distributes electrical, powertrain/drivetrain
and related components for automobiles and light trucks, medium and heavy-duty
trucks and other heavy-duty off-road vehicles.  Products include starter
motors, alternators, engines, transmissions, traction control systems and fuel
systems for both the original equipment and the aftermarket.
