Oki Electric Successfully Deploys Metaphase PDM Software

CINCINNATI--Feb. 2, 1999--SDRC , a leading provider of enterprise product development solutions worldwide, announced today that Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd., (Oki) has fully deployed its enterprise product data management (PDM) system based on SDRC's market-leading Metaphase(R) Enterprise(TM) software. Oki is using this production implementation of Metaphase to develop and manufacture its information communication system products, with the objective to shorten the development cycle and improve overall productivity in its Takasaki district. Oki's Metaphase deployment further solidifies SDRC's position as the leading PDM supplier in the Asian market.
Oki selected Metaphase Enterprise for its ability to automate workflow and manage the visual components of design change, thereby accelerating design-related work. Metaphase facilitates the integrated management of all Oki technical data relating to the development of information system apparatus products. Oki is using Metaphase to manage and control product data and the product development process, and manage configuration data more efficiently, communicating design through manufacturing to all facets of the business.
"With Metaphase, we can establish the infrastructure of product information that will help us reduce time to market and gain a competitive advantage. In the future, we will construct the knowledge management system based on PDM and aim to streamline product development," Hiroshi Nojiri, general manager, CIM Systems Department, Engineering Division System Business Group, Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd.
Metaphase manages 3D CAD data, drawings, and specifications - including design change management - throughout the product design and engineering processes, and it provides a concurrent engineering environment through part standardization and collaborative communication. Metaphase also automates workflow processes, such as drawing review or recognition, and visual management of the design process. In addition, the integration between Metaphase and the Baan IV enterprise resource planning system for sales and production management provides an effective supply chain for Oki.
"We are pleased to be assisting Oki in shortening their product development time with Metaphase Enterprise," said Bob Nierman, executive vice president and chief operating officer of SDRC. "Production success with industry leaders like Oki has enabled Metaphase to lead the PDM market in the Asian sector and throughout the world."
