Audi Kicks Year Off With Best January Since 1986 - 27.4 Percent Increase Over 1998
    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 2 -- Audi of America, Inc. reported
U.S. sales of 3,435 for the month of January, representing a 27.4 percent
increase over the same month last year when sales were 2,696.  Audi has
displayed this kind of year-over-previous-year sales increase for 48 of the
last 50 months.
    It was Audi's best January since 1986.  Increases were seen in every Audi
model range with the primary drivers being the A4 with a 39.2 percent increase
and the A6 with a 19.2 percent increase.  The best selling single model was
the A6 quattro sedan with 960 units sold.  Running neck and neck for second
place are the A4 1.8 T quattro sedan with 721 units and the A4 2.8 quattro
sedan with 716 units.  Total Avant sales, in both the A4 and A6 ranges, are
nearly twice January 1998 levels with 536 units sold (vs. 270).
   Last month, Audi reported its best December since 1985 and best year-to-
date since 1986 with total sales of 47,517.  This accomplishment marked Audi's
fourth straight year of double digit growth, 39.1 percent higher than 1997's
results of 34,160.
