Workhorse Launches 'One-Stop' Motor Home Service at Lazy Days
SEFFNER, Fla., Feb. 1 -- Today Workhorse Custom Chassis
launched its revolutionary "one-stop" service network of RV dealers at Lazy
Days RV Super Center, the largest RV dealership in the world. Lazy Days
became the first of approximately 12 dealers who will sign a Service Center
Agreement with Workhorse this week.
The network, expected to involve 500 RV dealers, is designed to provide
gasoline-powered motor home users with a convenient option for warranty work
if their motor home is built on a chassis made by Workhorse Custom Chassis.
Previously, motor home users had to get such service for the chassis part of
their vehicle (including engine and transmission) performed at a locations
other than their motor home dealer. Until now, only GM and Ford supplied
gasoline-powered chassis for motor homes. Accordingly, motor home owners have
been required to seek service at GM or Ford dealers. The Workhorse service
network will also include GM dealers for warranty and service work on existing
GM chassis as well as new Workhorse chassis.
This is a major change in the way motor home customers, dealers, and
manufacturers are used to viewing service options, and indicates the way
RVs are increasingly entering the mainstream of American lifestyles. Sales of
recreational vehicles have been on a sharp upward curve in recent years. With
the baby boom generation coming into its prime years for RV buying, that trend
is expected to accelerate.
Workhorse chairman Andrew Taitz was at the official signing ceremony along
with other Workhorse and Lazy Days officials. "This is the beginning of a new
era in RV service," he said. "When we started our business, this was one of
the things we heard over and over again that was needed."
Workhorse Custom Chassis itself is an indication of the way the industry
is changing. It is a new company that recently acquired the motor home
chassis division of GM. This month Workhorse will begin production of motor
home chassis identical to GM's P-32 model, and will develop a new heavy duty
chassis by next year. It also expects to offer manufacturers customized
chassis to give them and consumers more motor home options. Workhorse is the
largest company in the world devoted exclusively to manufacturing chassis.
