Subaru Announces January Sales Figures; Best January Retail Sales in 11 YearsCHERRY HILL, N.J., Feb. 1 -- Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) today announced its January sales figures. Subaru recorded a sales total of 9,831 units for the month, its best January retail sales month in 11 years. Overall, January 1999 totals are up nine percent over the same period in 1998. The Legacy model line led sales with 5,544 units posted. Outback sales were up over five percent (3,711 units) versus 1998 January sales (3,488 units). Forester posted 3,164 units, an increase of 44 percent over the same month last year. Subaru of America, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan. Headquartered near Philadelphia, the company markets and distributes Subaru vehicles, parts and accessories through a network of nearly 600 franchised dealers across the United States. All Legacy models sold in the U.S., including the Outback and Sport Utility Sedan, are produced at the company's American manufacturing plant, Subaru-Isuzu Automotive, Inc., near Lafayette, Ind.
