Big Kmart to be Title Sponsor of 1999 Detroit AutoramaTROY, Mich., Feb. 1 -- Kmart Corporation today announced it will be the title sponsor of the Detroit Autorama, one of the oldest and biggest custom car shows in the country. From February 19-21 at Cobo Center in downtown Detroit, the 47th Annual 1999 Big Kmart Detroit Autorama will welcome car buffs to visit the 800 exhibits of the hottest hot rods and wildest custom cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles of the past and present. "This is the first time Autorama has partnered with a major retailer such as Kmart. We are delighted to enter into a relationship that we believe will be a great benefit to the Autorama and to Big Kmart," said Peter A. Toundas, President of Championship Auto Show, Inc. "Kmart is a proud to be associated with one of the premier customer car shows in the country," said Wayne Yodzio, Divisional Vice President, Car Care, Kmart Corporation. "Our partnership with Autorama, a traditional crowd-pleaser, gives us an opportunity to highlight the fine Car Care department at Big K stores. Additionally, since we are the exclusive outlet for preshow tickets, we will offer customers advance discount Autorama tickets sold in the Big K Sporting Goods department." The 47th Annual 1999 Big Kmart Detroit Autorama tickets will go on sale February 5 at Kmart, Big Kmart and Super Kmart retail outlets in the metro Detroit area and extending to Flint, Lansing, Jackson and Toledo, Ohio. At the 47th Annual Big Kmart Detroit Autorama visitors will see two cars from Kmart's Racing teams. The new No. 66 Big Kmart/Route 66 car driven by NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip and the No. 11 car driven by Christian Fittipaldi in the CART series. Fittipaldi will drop in on the show, Saturday, February, 20 from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. to sign autographs and greet fans. Throughout the event, Big Kmart will hold special drawings and promotions for visitors who stop by the Big Kmart booth.
