SMS Receives Order From Alliant Techsystems; Aerospace and Defense Supplier to Lease SMS CT System and ServicesAUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 29 -- Scientific Measurement Systems (OTC Bulletin Board: SCMS) (SMS) announced today that it had received a purchase order from Alliant Techsystems, a prime supplier of aerospace and defense technologies to the U.S. and its allies. Under the terms of the contract, SMS will build and operate one of its SMARTScan(TM) Computed Tomography (CT) systems to scan military components for Alliant. The system will reside at SMS' scanning services facility in Austin. "As a true technology leader in many fields, Alliant adopted CT early on as the preferred method for inspecting some of their most critical parts," said Matt Gutierrez, Vice-president of Sales and Marketing for Scientific Measurement Systems. "In fact, Alliant has been a long-time services customer of SMS, using our CT images to evaluate internal features in critical components that allow them to monitor their manufacturing processes. Their scanning services needs simply outgrew our existing capacity. The operating lease significantly expands our scanning services department while providing Alliant almost instant access to state-of-the-art CT scanning and analysis capabilities." SMS designs, manufactures, and sells industrial CT equipment and services to a worldwide customer base. The company is a recognized leader in the development and commercialization of CT technology. CT provides a fully non- destructive method for creating 2-D and 3-D data sets of an object, allowing the user to examine both internal and external features.
