National-Standard Company Elects Donald R. Sheley, Jr. Director
    NILES, Mich., Jan. 29 -- National-Standard Company
today announced the election of Donald R. Sheley, Jr. to the
Company's Board of Directors.
    "We welcome Don to our Board," said Mike Savitske, President and Chief
Executive Officer.  "Our Company will benefit from his expertise in
manufacturing accounting, organizational development and performance based
financial systems as we execute the strategies for our various businesses."
    Sheley, age 56, is Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of
Standard Products Company in Dearborn, Michigan, a position he has held since
1995.  From 1980 to 1995, Sheley held various executive financial positions
with Cooper Industries, Inc.  Prior to his employment at Cooper, Sheley's
career included positions with Joy Manufacturing Co., FMC Corp. and Inland
Steel Co.
    Sheley holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a bachelor of
science degree in finance from Indiana University.
    Founded in 1907, National-Standard is a Niles, Michigan based firm with
annual sales of approximately $225 million.  In nine operating facilities in
the United States and England, the Company manufactures and distributes a
broad range of wire and wire-related products, including tire bead wire and
welding wire, in addition to wire cloth, fabricated filters and inflator
housings for the automotive air bag industry.
