Carlisle Companies Acquires Wheel Manufacturer

    SYRACUSE, N.Y.--Jan. 28, 1999--Carlisle Companies Incorporated announced today that its Carlisle Tire & Wheel Company acquired privately held Global Manufacturers Corporation of Paramount, California. Global is a manufacturer of stamped steel wheels for industrial and recreational applications and also designs and produces styled steel wheels for sale to the automotive aftermarket. Carlisle also acquired Global's affiliate, Acro-Coat, Inc., which provides specialty painting and coatings services to the wheel market.
    Rick McKinnish, President of Carlisle Tire & Wheel Company, stated "the purchase of Global will enhance our ability to serve a broader market with high quality tire and wheel assemblies. The addition of Global will also improve our presence in the growing market for styled steel wheels for the automotive aftermarket. We are very pleased to add Global's high caliber engineering and production capabilities to Carlisle."
    Terms of the transaction were not disclosed
    Carlisle is a diversified manufacturer of products serving four major markets: construction materials, automotive components, industrial components and general industry.
