Ford-Volvo Deal Imminent, Ward's Automotive Reports Says

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 27 -- After weeks of speculation,
Ford Motor Co. is set to acquire AB Volvo's car operations, beating
out Fiat SpA and General Motors Corp. for the Swedish automaker,
Ward's Automotive Reports says in a story appearing on the Ward's website
(http://www.wardsauto.com).
    Sources tell Ward's that an official announcement of the deal could come
as early as this week.  Terms of the deal could not be learned, but sources
say Ford President and Chief Executive Jac Nasser was in New York earlier this
week to hammer out a pact with top Volvo executives.  Volvo officials in New
York said they could not confirm or deny that a meeting took place.
