IHS Engineering, Manufacturing Technology Inc. Forge TDMplus Partnership to Predict Life Expectancies for Electronic Components

    ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--Jan. 25, 1999--

New Database will Forecast Obsolescence Life Cycle Predictions
for Components, Provide Direct Links to Replacement Sources

In an effort to better predict life expectancies for components in the electronics industry, IHS Engineering has struck a partnership agreement with Manufacturing Technology Inc. (MTI) to provide a comprehensive database for electronic component life cycle management, TDMplus (Total DMS Management).
Originally focused exclusively on military components, the integration of the extensive IHS commercial product data into the TDMplus tool-set provides the richest database in the industry, applicable to all systems where product longevity is an issue.
Engineers and purchasing professionals associated with the defense industry, the chief users of TDMplus, will now be able to predict obsolescence of electronic components. Users will be able to easily find suppliers of replacement parts through a direct link with IHS's CAPSXpert database, which parametrically searches components across 1,100 manufacturers.
"This partnership will revolutionize the DMS (Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages) management process," said Robert Wing, CEO of IHS Engineering. "We are bringing immediate life cycle prediction and replacement data capabilities to our worldwide clients, while positioning the IHS/MTI team to become the dominant force in the DMS arena. In fact, we're already developing concepts for new products in this arena."
Users will now be able to identify the supplier that delivers the new parts at the most competitive price in time for replacement of an obsolete component. This valuable desktop tool will save engineers and buyers hours of research time, dramatically reduce product costs and decrease time to market.
The TDMplus agreement also grants IHS the rights to be the exclusive value-added reseller for all MTI products, and will be integral to future DMS solutions development. IHS is the worldwide leader for engineering, technical, and regulatory information while MTI is one of the world's top DMS tool developers and a major support contractor to the Department of Defense.
Dr. Paul Hsu, CEO of MTI, further elaborated on the impact of the agreement. "IHS has long been the leader in their field, organizing and cataloging data on virtually every component and element in manufactured systems. We have an established, full-fledged DMS business unit that can present the IHS data in DMS-focused tools, empowering the decision-maker with accurate, timely options," he said.
