CTS Corporation Announces $25 Million Expansion Plan for Company's Scotland Operations
ELKHART, Ind.--Jan. 21, 1999--CTS Corporation today announced an expansion plan to increase technology capabilities, add new automated assembly equipment and create in excess of 200 jobs during the next three years at CTS Corporation U.K., Ltd. operations. During this period, CTS plans to invest up to $25 million in its operations in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland, and its sister facility in Hudson, New Hampshire. The expansion will broaden the Company's production activities through the creation of additional capacity for the manufacture of automotive sensor products; enhance technological capabilities with surface mount production lines for next generation products and add new electronic test capabilities for the Interconnect Systems business; expand the Company's plastic molding operations; and allow for the commencement of in-house element printing operations. The Interconnect Systems business in both Scotland and the U.S. is rapidly evolving from a quality backpanel supplier to a "total solutions provider," integrating the backpanel into an entire CTS assembled, tested system.
The project was won for Scotland against competition from other locations in the world by "Locate in Scotland," the joint Scottish Office/Scottish Enterprise inward investment agency, working in partnership with Lanarkshire Development Agency.
Lord Macdonald, Minister for Business and Industry in Scotland, said; "I am delighted that CTS has chosen the Blantyre facility for this expansion project and the 212 new jobs are great news for the area. This project was won against stiff competition from other locations around the world and is an excellent vote of confidence in the workforce at the plant by the parent company in the U.S."
Mr. Ian Livingstone, Chairman of Lanarkshire Development Agency said; "This decision by CTS Corporation to expand its Lanarkshire operations acknowledges the quality of the workforce and the transport infrastructure available to companies investing in the county. The telecommunications industry plays an important role in the Scottish economy and I am delighted that Lanarkshire will continue to benefit in terms of both 200 new jobs and a significant investment for the Blantyre area."
CTS Corporation Group Vice President, William J. Kaska, said; "The expansion will allow our CTS U.K. operations to build the foundation for continued growth in employment and revenue, supporting the future needs of our telecommunications equipment, automotive and computer equipment customer base in Europe. The entire UK management, engineering and employee team has shown leadership and ownership at identifying new customer opportunities requiring varying technologies and we are responding to these growth opportunities."
