Ford Announces Record Profit Sharing
DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 21 -- Ford Motor Company
President and Chief Executive Officer Jacques Nasser announced record profit
sharing for 1998. Profit sharing checks averaging $6,100 will be distributed
to eligible U.S. Ford employees on March 3.
"We achieved record earnings, and continued to lower total costs in 1998,"
said Nasser. "We earned several coveted productivity and quality awards, as
well as top safety ratings. We achieved unprecedented truck sales, we've
offered customers an environmentally kinder line-up and recently became the
first and only automaker to achieve ISO 14001 certification for its plants in
the U.S. and worldwide. Our efforts paid off in enhanced shareholder value."
Nasser attributed the successes shared by the company to the dedication
and hard work of Ford employees. "I'm really proud of the Ford team and all
we accomplished. And I want to personally thank you and applaud your efforts
in every area."
Since Ford began paying profit sharing in 1984, employees will have
received an average of more than $32,575. This is the thirteenth payment
under the Profit Sharing Plan first agreed to by the UAW and Ford in 1982.
