Lear Employees' Contributions to United Way Top Tier 1 Auto Suppliers
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 19 -- Lear Corporation
employees in the metropolitan Detroit area, through the 1998 United Way
employee solicitation campaign, pledged a record $533,807 in contributions to
this year's Torch Drive. This is the first time that Lear employees' annual
contributions to the Southeast Michigan charity have exceeded the
half-million-dollar mark.
Lear's corporate gift of $90,000 brought the company's total 1998
contribution to an all-time high of $623,807 -- an increase of nearly
30 percent over 1997. For the 1998 campaign, Lear Corporation again leads all
Tier 1 automotive suppliers in contributions to United Way Community Services.
"Our 1998 goal was to increase employee giving by ten percent over 1997,"
said Ken Way, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lear Corporation. "To
exceed that goal three-fold and to raise more than a half-million dollars
shows the tremendous generosity of our employees and their willingness to
sacrifice for those members of our community who are less fortunate."
Currently, Way is serving a two-year term as Chairman of United Way
Community Services, the sponsor of the annual Torch Drive that this year
marked its 50th year and raised more than $69.1 million.
Lear Corporation's Chrysler, Ford, and GM Divisions as well as its
Interior Systems Group also put together a team of more than 120 Lear
volunteers who served as account executives in soliciting other companies
located in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties for corporate and employee
contributions.
Lear Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, is one of the world's largest
automotive suppliers, with 1997 sales of $7.3 billion. The company's world-
class products are designed, engineered and manufactured in 28 countries on
six continents. Information about Lear and its products is available on the
Internet at http://www.lear.com.
