Young Auto Recycler Celebrates 10-Year Business Anniversary And 7,500 Vehicles RecycledFORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 14 -- Keith Sturgeon, owner of All Import Auto Parts is celebrating 10 years in a business he started as a senior in high school. Keith says, "My dad always told me time would go faster as I grew older, and he was right. The past 10 years have gone by fast." Keith opened his business on January 3, 1989, with one employee. He was in the work program at school, so the employee or his mother ran the business until he arrived each day. His first employee, Ronnie Massey, says, "I am proud of Keith; he has an unusual work ethic and ability to deal with people." Ronnie does automotive paint and body work and still sees Keith regularly. Keith started with about $8,000 he saved during high school, buying, fixing, and selling cars with his father's help. His father, Ron Sturgeon, operates Auto Recycling facilities in several Texas cities, and both of his younger brothers own Auto Recycling facilities. Keith rented about 3 acres at 5800 Elliot Reeder Road, where his business, All Import Auto Parts, is still operating on "Wrecking Yard Row" in Fort Worth. He estimates that he has processed 7,500 vehicles in his career thus far, recycling over 30,000 quarts of oil, 1.5 million pounds of scrap metal, and enough copper to coin almost 1 million pennies. A list of Keith's accomplishments is below. He is also a member of United Recyclers Group (URG), a recently created coalition of over 360 Auto Recyclers throughout North America. Jay Raimondi, URG President, says, "Keith is probably one of the youngest owners that started from scratch and we are proud to help him celebrate his 10th anniversary." During the last 10 years, Keith married Tammy Pack, the daughter of lifetime Auto Recycler, James Pack. Tammy has a 15-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son, both of whom help out occasionally at the business. Keith began working at his dad's auto recycling facility at age 13, pulling parts, cleaning and doing odd jobs. He later dismantled cars and became an accomplished welder at age 16, building parts storage racks. He got his first car at age 14, a wrecked Toyota, which he eagerly worked on and drove on Saturdays after work within his dad's facility. Keith is working on a Dodge Neon for his stepdaughter Samantha, who will get her driver's permit in January 1999. Samantha, like Keith, has saved the money for her first car. Keith's advice for other young people: "Listen to your parents, work hard, and always do what you say you will."
