International Automotive Expert To Deliver ISA's 1999 Rimbach LectureRESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Jan. 14 -- ISA, the international society for measurement and control, announces that Professor Bert Breuer will deliver the 1999 Rimbach Lecture at its annual President's Winter Meeting. Breuer's lecture, "Global Aspects of 21st Century Mobility: Vehicle Configurations, Ecological Stewardship and Developing Nations," is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Sunday 7 February 1999 at The Catamaran Resort Hotel in San Diego, Calif. The lecture is free and open to the public. Professor Breuer's lecture will highlight global roles in road transport and geographic differences, road transport's share in energy consumption and emissions, and the internal combustion engine vs. electric and hybrid engines. Professor Breuer will also provide perspective on such questions as, What is happening to public transportation? Will cars become self-controlled, mobile workstations that interact with highway, GPS and traffic intelligence? What are future engineers' potentials for global transportation needs? Professor Breuer is the director of Automotive Engineering at Darmstadt University in Germany where he served as Dean of the ME Faculty from 1985-86. He chaired the Automotive Division of the VDI (the Association of German Engineers) and served as the president of FISITA (the International Federation of Automotive Engineering Societies) from 1996 to 1998. Professor Breuer is the author of more than 100 technical papers and holds several patents in automotive engineering. He is the recipient of the Borchers Medal presented by Aachen University and the Benz-Daimler-Maybach medal awarded by the VDI. The Rimbach Lectures were established in memory of Richard Rimbach, long considered the Father of ISA, for his lifetime of service in advancing industrial instrumentation and controls and for his role founding ISA in 1945. The Rimbach Lecture recognizes the achievements of selected industry leaders and provides a forum for them to impart their experiences and views to ISA members and future industry leaders. About ISA ISA is a 47,000-member international, nonprofit, educational organization. The Society fosters advancement in the theory, design, manufacture, and use of instruments, computers, and systems for measurement and control. In addition to hosting the largest conferences and exhibitions for instrumentation and control in the Western Hemisphere, ISA is a leading training organization and a respected publisher of books, magazines, and consensus standards. And, ISA serves the professional development and credentialing needs of Control Systems Engineers (CSE), instrument technicians, and others within the field of measurement and control.
