Carey International Announces Jacksonville AcquisitionWASHINGTON, Jan. 14 -- Carey International, Inc. announced today that it has acquired East Coast Transportation, Inc. of Jacksonville, Florida. East Coast is the largest chauffeured vehicle service company in the greater Jacksonville area with fiscal year 1998 sales of approximately $5 million. Founded in 1983 by Alan Melton and Greg Franks, East Coast is the preferred chauffeured transportation service for many of the leading hotels and resorts in North Florida, serving the Atlantic Coast as well as South Georgia. The company has been recognized on several occasions for its outstanding commitment to customer service. In 1997 and 1998, it was the recipient of quality awards from the Florida Governor's Sterling Council. East Coast was also nominated for Operator of the Year by the National Limousine Association in 1993 and was a finalist for Limousine and Chauffeured Transportation Magazine's Operator of the Year in 1998. Messrs. Melton and Franks were named Florida's Small Business Persons of the Year in 1994. "East Coast is a very strategic addition for Carey," said Vincent A.
