17th Annual Cycle World International Motorcycle Show Rumbles Through New York
SANTA ANA, Calif.--Jan. 13, 1999--The Cycle World International Motorcycle Show(R), presented by Toyota Trucks, rumbles through New York City for the 17th year, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, Jan. 15-17, 1999.The fourth stop of a nationwide tour that motors through 10 major metropolitan areas, New York motorcyclists will be one of the first group of enthusiasts to view the largest and most complete display of state-of-the-art, 1999 models from the motorcycle, personal watercraft, scooter, ATV and accessory industries before the season begins.
Seeing a natural match between the powersports industry and the lifestyle of its target consumers, Toyota Trucks joins the show for the first year and will use the arena to unveil its new full-size, V8 Toyota Tundra Truck -- one of only eight prototypes across the country. In addition to previewing this aggressively designed, high-powered vehicle at the show, consumers can enter the Toyota Tundra Truck Giveaway for a chance to win one of these beautiful machines. This partnership will launch the show to a new level and offer a broader spectrum of products for viewing to the general consumer, both enthusiasts and novices alike.
More than 55,000 enthusiasts are expected to attend the three-day event, marked by participants as one of the best shows in the country for on-site purchase and hands-on comparison of new vehicles, performance products, clothing and aftermarket merchandise.
Recognizing the value and opportunity of making a direct link to the consumer in this highly competitive market, this show season features a record 15 original equipment manufacturers. The line-up premieres 1999 model displays from Aprilia, ATK, BMW, Buell, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Moto Guzzi, Moto LaVerda, Suzuki, Triumph, Victory and Yamaha. Showcased as the perfect accessory to the OEM products, The Factory returns to spotlight every type of customized accessory needed to personalize any type of motorcycle. The high-energy Factory Dancers will perform regularly throughout the weekend. Aftermarket manufacturers include: Bridgestone/Firestone Company; Chatterbox; Dunlop Tire Corp.; Dynojet Research; GI. VI USA, Inc.; HJC Helmets; Kendon Industries; K&N Engineering; National Cycle; Shoei Helmets; Super Trapp/Kerker; and Yuasa Inc. Attendees can also view special demonstrations and interactive features, as well as speak directly with powersports industry representatives.
Several new show attractions that are sure to rev the crowds have been added to this year's tour. One of the most dynamic is the Team Extreme Trials Showcase, which will feature elite motorcycle trial riders pitting their skills against the radical Team Extreme Obstacle Course. This action adventure will feature Tommi Ahvala, Finland's '92 World Champion and '93 World Indoor Champion, facing vertical walls up to 9 1/2-inches. With adrenaline pumping and moves of pure skill thrilling the crowd, Team Extreme will perform nine times throughout the weekend, confirming with each feat why motorcycle trials are being dubbed the new extreme in motorcycle competition.
Back by popular demand, the Cycle World Reader's Collection features a local bike competition for each market. Judged by photo entry, winners will showcase their bikes in a special display at each show, with awards given for first, second and third place. These bikes and related memorabilia all have a story to tell and represent the unique connection between motorcyclists across the country. A new category, "Best of Show," will be featured in an upcoming edition of Cycle World Magazine and entered in the "Best of the Best" shootout competing for a 1999 Triumph Legend TT.
In addition to the Toyota Tundra Truck Giveaway, consumers who dream of owning a smooth ride can enter to win a 1999 Suzuki SV650 -- the Official Motorcycle Giveaway of the show series. The Suzuki SV650 will be given away to an eligible winner at the end of the tour. The popular Product Giveaway returns with the tour, offering attendees the chance to win great prizes throughout the show every two hours. Progressive Insurance, a new sponsor to the event, will also be handing out commemorative phone cards with 15 minutes of free calling time.
